Production

Before starting your project, Lost Dog's producer/engineers spend a great deal of time understanding your individual goals and objectives, and continue to ensure that those objectives are being realized throughout the production process. We focus on short and long term goals and assist in determining where you are in your career. We gather and provide information and resources that assist in meeting your personal and project objectives. Whether you are a touring artist working on a new project or a songwriter working on a first demo, we have the experience and resources that will help move you forward in your career and ensure a quality project.

Pre-Production

The most important aspect of pre-production is getting your project to the point of being ready to record efficiently, and ensuring that the material you track fits your goals and objectives. All song arrangements, tempos and keys are worked out along with instrumentation and the foundation of the rhythm section. Depending on the artist and the project, lead players, sessions players, backing vocals and other textural elements are also solidified in this process. Whether you are a signed artist with secure funding or are independently funded, pre-production not only saves you money and helps to ensure your ability to "recoup" your investment, but it is also a necessary step in creating quality recordings. All of our producer/engineers place a high value on the pre-production process and understand the importance of getting the songs right before going into the production studio. Our producer/engineers have the equipment to work outside of the production studio not only saving you money but allowing for more time to ensure your best results. In some cases we have rented warehouses for a month, brought our equipment to the artists personal work space, or worked in less expensive demo studios which provides a considerable cost savings. In each of those examples, the cost was less then the cost of working three days in a studio. The biggest benefit, however, is in the development of the material and the focus that it brings to the project. For every band, artist, and project, there may be a different approach. Each of our producer / engineers work to determine the best approach that fits your needs. For example, a band that has been touring may require a very small amount of pre-production verses a solo artist who will be working with studio sessions players for the first time.
